Alianza Contigo in California.
The objective of this project was to provide information to the members of the Federation of Clubs of Zacatecans in Southern California (FCZSC) about the federal government program Alianza Contigo.
Through this program, Mexican immigrants have an option to finance projects in the countryside for their families in Mexico. Alianza Contigo is an alternative to obtaining investment from public funds in rural regions of our country, and can facilitate the acquisition of machinery, cattle, and seeds for the generation of rural businesses.
With the support of the Policy Table of the FCZSC and the participation of the sub-secretaries of agriculture and livestock breeding of SEDAGRO Zacatecas, the programs Livestock Promotion, Agricultural Promotion, and Rural Development were presented. These programs provide support up to 90% of projects that meet requirements.
CDs with information about the state development plan, the sub-programs of Alianza Contigo, the funding application form, and the list of techniques used by SAGARPA SEDAGRO to design the projects were distributed among those in attendance.
With the participation of FCZSC, INDESOL, the Interamerican Foundation, and MIDE-ac through the Social Co-Investment Program of 2006, the project “Facilitating Zacatecan immigrants to impact the policies of rural development in their state through knowledge of the program Alianza Contigo and the Councils of Municipal Development” had a cost of MX$198,854.00, disbursed between April and December of 2006.
This is considered a pilot project in attending to Mexican citizens outside of their national territory. Among the project’s results, a modification to Article 5 of the Law of Sustainable Rural Development was proposed to consider Mexican immigrant organizations outside the country who are interested in development of the Mexican countryside as legal “subjects” of this law and as permanent representatives in the “state and municipal councils of sustainable rural development”.
